Nick Midwig

Nick Midwig is an award-winning cinematographer with over a decade of experience setting the visual tone for critically acclaimed feature films, television series, and commercial campaigns.

Nick served as the cinematographer on the Emmy-nominated documentary feature BEWARE THE SLENDERMAN about the internet’s elusive Boogeyman and the infamous case of two 12-year-old girls who would kill for him. Shot over 18 months with unprecedented access to the families of the would-be murderers, the film premiered at SXSW before ultimately airing on HBO. It also received two 2017 Critics’ Choice Award nominations in addition to a 2018 Emmy nomination for best Current Affairs Documentary.

Most recently, Nick served as the series DP for two seasons of the National Geographic Channel series MARS, which was executive produced by Ron Howard and Brian Grazer. The series was nominated for an International Documentary Association Award for Best Episodic Series and called “visually gorgeous” by The New Yorker. His other TV series work includes Oprah Winfrey's BELIEF about human spirituality around the world and the National Geographic Channel’s BREAKTHROUGH about cyber terrorism in modern America.

He has also brought his cinematic eye to commercial campaigns for clients such as DODGE RAM, SUBARU, CITI BANK, THE WEATHER CHANNEL, FORD, SPORTS ILLUSTRATED, STOLI VODKA, LEXUS, and more.

Whether filming scientists in Antarctica, Shaolin monks in China, or complex starscapes in the Atacama Desert, Nick pairs well-developed vérité shooting instincts with a particular talent for creating high-end, cinematic visuals.
